View of Apollo 11 Lunar Module descent engine nozzle
July 20, 1969

In this view, the lunar surface beneath the descent engine nozzle is shown. The area has been swept clean of loose, unconsolidated material by the engine exhaust. Small radial striations emanate outward from the exhaust center, indicating the path taken by the expelled surface material.
